About Anhui

Anhui Province is situated in the north-western part of eastern China, extending across Changjiang (Yangtze) River and he Huaihe River valleys. The total area of the Province is over 139,000 square kilometres with a population of 60 million (2007), including the Han, Hui, She and other nationalities. Hefei is its provincial capital.

Anhui Province has a mild monsoon climate with ample rainfall. It has four distinctive seasons in a year. The average monthly temperature of January, the coldest month, is between -1°C (30.2°F) and 4°C (39.2°F) while that of July, hottest month, is between 27°C (80.6°F) and 29°C (84.2°F). Dabieshan Mountains and Mt. Huangshan are two main rain areas. There are great yearly variations of rainfall in the northern part of the Province, consequently the frequent occurrences of drought in springs and floods in summer season. The average annual rainfall of Anhui is 750mm-1700mm.

Education

Anhui's educational and financial regulators jointly launched a scheme to revitalize the province's higher education. Under the scheme, the province will set up six to eight local universities and 20 model vocational colleges by 2020. Also, a batch of subjects will be improved to better serve the province's leading industries and strategic emerging industries. Some of them, the Department of Education said, should develop so well that they can be ranked among the top in the country.The educational and financial departments also plan to appropriate funds to build or renovate teaching and research facilities including labs, research centers, e-libraries, teaching and research networks. Universities and colleges in Anhui will be encouraged to recruit renowned teachers from beyond the province, and also to endeavor to nurture their existing faculty into a nationally or even globally known one, according to the plan. In addition, the plan called for cooperation and exchanges between a minimum of 50 institutions of higher learning in the province and overseas prestigious universities.

Anhui Agricultural University

Anhui Agricultural University locates in Hefei, a famous historic city known as the hometown of Bao Zheng (the distinguished justice in the Song Dynasty) and noted as a base of scientific research and higher education of China. Anhui Agricultural University, the only agricultural university of the province, is a historic and comprehensive university with a broad social impact. The university dates back to the Provincial Anhui University founded in Anqing in 1928, whose predecessor, the College of Agronomy, attached to the university, was founded in 1935. It became independent from the Provincial Anhui University and was renamed Anhui Agricultural College after moving to Hefei in 1954. In 1995, Anhui Agricultural College was renamed Anhui Agricultural University. The university covers an area of 210 hectares with a total building space of 770,000 square meters. And the total value of instruments for teaching and scientific research adds up to 220 million Yuan.

Anhui Medical University

As a key provincial university, Anhui Medical University is a medical institution with the longest history in Anhui province. Since its foundation in 1926, Anhui Medical University has accumulated a profound historical background.
